The Basics of Mobile Welding Safety

Mobile welding is one of the fastest growing businesses in the world today. The technological advances allowing for mobile arc welding technology to be transported has become a boom to many individuals cashing in on the construction industry’s rise. Unfortunately, mobile welding has its dark side and knowing how to manage it is the key to the success in this business.

The following are the most common mobile welding hazards: 

1. Fire and Explosion. This is one of the greatest risks involved with mobile welding. Thus, there are key actions that need to be done always. The first is checking of valves and outlets. When transporting acetylene with oxygen, their volatility may result in conflagration when negligently handled. Check the valves every now and then. Keep these containers away from high-intensity thermal activity to avoid heating up the gases and leading to an explosion.
    
2. Slips and Trips. This may seem to be innocuous at best but this is one of the major issues when it comes to mobile welding safety. The worst scenario would be an individual holding a torch or cutter and suddenly tripping over a hose that eventually injures the person and/or others.  To avoid these kinds of issues during mobile welding, it is best to avoid having unnecessary materials lying around to become the cause of trips and falls.
    
3. Electrical Hazards. One of the power sources for mobile welding would be electrical currents. Thus it is important to check if the outlets are clean and without stray fibers. Check also the insulation of the wires which have been exposed to the elements. Prevention is the best defense against these kinds of hazards.
    

Mobile welding, while lucrative, is fraught with risk. There are dangers for fire and explosion, slips and trips and electrical hazards that are ever present in each project done. Avoiding all these at the work site would help in keeping risks low and profits high.
