Understanding the Workings of Laser Cutting Machines
Baseline Custom Fabricating continually expands our services in order to meet the most in-demand needs of our diverse array of customers. We provide a wide variety of services, including metal fabrication, metal processing, welding, and laser cutting to Pickering, Durham Region, the GTA, and locations all over Southern Ontario.
As industry leaders, we understand the many intricate decisions that go into a laser cutting project.
It’s important for a facility to have multiple laser cutting machines – their capabilities may be roughly the same, but the smallest differences can help determine suitability for different kinds of projects.
Here are some of the specifications we consider when trying to determine what kind of laser machine to use:
1. Laser power or wattage
Beam intensity has a direct relationship with laser power. The more powerful the laser machine is, the more expensive the laser machine is, though it has the benefit of greatly reducing processing time. As such, it is our job to take into account your budget and timeframe in order to come up with a suitable plan. We always make sure to have an extensive consultation with clients. Considering that we service a large area, providing laser cutting to Pickering, Durham Region, the GTA, and more, it is important for us to be on top of our communication game.
2. Wavelength of the beam
Wavelength relates to the material’s radiation absorption rate. This rate determines how well a material can be heated, melted, and vaporized, and certain wavelengths of laser correspond better to certain absorption rates.
3. Focus
During a laser cutting procedure, the beam is directed through a special mirror and then focused to a very small spot with high intensity. The focus or the focal spot of the beam is the point at which its diameter is the smallest. The optimal beam focus to aim for depends on several factors, such as the state of the focal lens, beam mode, type of assist gas, and the material itself.
Thanks to our attention to detail, our clients have noticed a significant difference. After all, we put great care and thought into our work here at Baseline. If you are looking for laser cutting in Pickering, or any other service, give us a call!
